How Drone Flight Romania’s BVLOS aerial surveillance reduced incident risks for one of Romania’s largest archiving companies
In September 2026, Global Archive Management (GAM), a pioneering provider of integrated archiving solutions in Romania, made a major investment in securing and protecting its clients' archival documents by introducing Drone Flight Romania’s BVLOS aerial surveillance at its facilities in Dărăști, near Bucharest. The result: a significant improvement in surveillance quality and site visibility, driven by regular thermal and visual inspections and 24/7 remote alert verification.
The client
A Romanian-Dutch partnership with a 25-year presence on the Romanian archiving market, Global Archive Management (GAM) focuses on transforming its archiving solutions into a comprehensive system for document control and safety across the entire archive lifecycle. It serves clients across more than 20 industries, including strategic and highly regulated sectors.
Amidst growing security challenges, the client decided to invest in state-of-the-art technology to mitigate the risk of incidents at the site serviced by Drone Flight Romania, specifically covering its five warehouses, which total over 10,000 square meters of storage space.
The challenge
GAM’s archive warehouses store a vast volume of documents holding significant legal and financial value for its clients, necessitating a rigorous and constant level of security, day and night. Consequently, the client’s priority is to minimize risks regarding document security and integrity, such as unauthorized access and the prompt detection of building-related issues like water ingress or temperature fluctuations that could compromise preservation conditions.
The solution
Drone Flight România installed a docking station (drone box) at GAM’s Dărăști facility, enabling 24/7 operations without the need for an on-site pilot. The drone carries out both scheduled and on-demand missions, including video surveillance of the perimeter and restricted-access areas, thermal inspections to monitor building temperatures, and periodic technical inspection flights to identify water ingress or visible defects on roofs and facades.
The service was delivered via the CORE subscription plan, tailored for night-time operations and the specific technical inspections required for an archive warehouse, as well as the integration of specialized sensors.
The implementation
Implementation began with a technical assessment of the GAM site to establish flight paths, identify critical surveillance points (such as restricted-access zones and buildings requiring thermal monitoring), and determine the optimal location for the docking station.
To authorize the BVLOS operations specific to this site, Drone Flight România prepared all the documentation required for submission to the AACR (Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority): registration of Drone Flight România as a UAS operator; registration of the drone used in the operation; the SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment), determining the ground and air risks specific to the GAM location; and the Operations Manual tailored to this mission, covering flight procedures, dispatch team roles, and emergency protocols.
The complete dossier was submitted to the AACR, and actual operations commenced only after the operational authorization was obtained.
Following authorization, the process involved the physical installation of the docking station, calibration tests, and verification flights, as well as a brief orientation for GAM personnel regarding the system's operation, the safety zone around the docking station, the alert transmission flow to the Drone Flight România dispatch center, emergency procedures, and Drone Flight România points of contact.
The results
- Continuous site surveillance (24/7, including at night) without the need for additional on-site personnel.
- Real-time response to intrusion incidents. Upon an event alert, the drone can be dispatched to the specific area; the resulting imagery is transmitted in real-time to the Drone Flight România control center, enabling the immediate initiation of appropriate security and guarding protocols.
- Prevention or prompt detection of technical issues with the warehouses through regular thermal and visual inspections of roofs and facades, conducted more frequently than in previous operational scenarios.
- Documentation of every mission via imagery and flight logs, useful for tracking the condition of the buildings over time.
- Inspections have already enabled the prevention of water ingress issues, which were subsequently reported to the GAM team for remediation.
DFR-OPS // full serviceWhy Drone Flight Romania
GAM chose Drone Flight România because it offers a comprehensive service rather than just equipment; the client does not need to hire or train in-house pilots, requires no dedicated on-site technical staff, and does not have to manage the maintenance of the drone or the docking station. Furthermore, Drone Flight România handled all aspects of legal compliance (AACR authorization, SORA assessment, operations manual), a crucial factor for a client operating in a highly regulated sector such as document archiving.
With Drone Flight România (DFR), we gained visibility over our site that we didn’t have before, both at night and during technical inspections, thereby considerably reducing the risk of intrusion incidents and significantly cutting down response times. It was certainly not just the right decision, but a necessary one for any company seeking the highest level of security at all times.
